Now is the time of year when you need to think about getting out in the garden again. It’s time to watch out for the last frosts of the year to finally be on their way out. Once they are, you can start to think about planting your first few seedlings and start growing things from seed again. And what better place could there be to make these plans than on your garden table?
You might still find it a bit cold at the moment, but when the weather is good you can comfortably sit outside in your garden and enjoy a few minutes of fresh air – even if you need to wear a sweater to do so. Take a fresh look at your garden and make a list of all those spring jobs you need to start doing. What about focusing on some weeding perhaps? Sweeping the patio area of all those fallen leaves and dirt is another good way to reclaim the area for the New Year ahead.
You can also make a list of the plants you need to tend to. When you want to start growing vegetables and other items from bulbs or seeds, you will be glad of having your garden table to help you out. Sitting there is much better for you than kneeling down or sitting on the cold floor to plant them out. This is particularly the case if you have small propagators or small pots to put them in initially.
If you have a plastic temporary greenhouse which can be taken down and put back up again in the right weather, now would be a good time to think about taking that back out again as well. You can use your table to lay out all the parts and then start putting it together when the weather is better.
In a way your garden table can be the place where your early plans for the year ahead in the garden take shape. You can enjoy a spot of lunch there as you work as well, and it helps you reclaim your garden as the weather starts to improve.
Just be sure you don’t go out and start planting too early. The weather can still surprise us even as April comes our way, so making sure we have the right time to get started is the best bet.
